The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock fits over the inside of an existing deadbolt, so the outside of the door is unchanged. The lock unlocks automatically as the phone approaches and connects directly over Wi-Fi for remote control.

Because the outside cylinder is untouched, the existing key remains a reliable backup. The smart mechanism sits inside the door.

Does it replace the outside lock?
No. It fits over the interior thumb turn, leaving the exterior hardware and key unchanged.
Is a keypad included?
No. The keypad is an optional accessory; this kit includes the lock and Wi-Fi bridge.
